


In Ireland, The Housing Standards for Rented Accommodation Regulations 2019 (SI:137 of 2019) place a legal requirement on landlords to meet the prescribed minimum standards for rented accommodation. Section 10 of the Regulations specifies that each “self-contained house/apartment in a multi-unit building shall contain a suitable fire detection and alarm system and an Emergency Evacuation Plan“
“Multi-unit building” means a building that contains two or more houses that share a common access.

What should it look like?

The contents of an Emergency Evacuation Plan under the above Regulations should include:
- The action to be taken in the event of a fire, discovering a fire or hearing the fire alarm.
- The procedure for calling the fire brigade
- A floor plan of the building providing the below information
- The location of all relevant escape routes from the building
- The location of fire alarm call points (break glass units) and fire alarm control panel
- The location of fire fighting equipment in the building
